Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being — regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages.
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home — so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world.” — Eleanor Roosevelt
Wanda Alston House is a small place that serves as a home for LGBTQ youth who were homeless for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons involve the violation of their human rights and disregard for them as human beings.
The Wanda Alston Foundation provides support for them in some of the same ways any loving family provides for their own children. We provide housing, material support, but most importantly, we provide a secure and safe environment for them to thrive. We give them what they need to move forward with their lives as healthy and productive independent young adults.
To end our 10th year in service and move into our eleventh year, we are hosting this flash fundraiser. We want to continue standing up for human rights through our work. We are asking you to:
