Washington, DC - Today, the Wanda Alston Foundation and local partners launched the Queer Love Shouldn’t Hurt campaign, a public awareness initiative leading up to LGBTQ+ Domestic Violence Awareness Day, May 28.
“Domestic and family violence in LGBTQ+ communities is real and too often invisible,” said Cesar Toledo, Executive Director of Wanda Alston Foundation. “As a community, we do not talk about it enough, and that silence can leave survivors feeling isolated and alone. We must break that silence.”“To survivors: free culturally competent care is out there. By visiting queerlove.org, people can safely access vital resources, educational toolkits, and support networks they need on their healing journey.”
Throughout May, the initiative will deploy digital resources, community workshops, and public toolkits to increase awareness and support survivors across the District. To learn more about the campaign, access free educational materials, or discover how you can support survivors in the District, visit queerlove.org.
