For homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth in Washington, D.C.
The Wanda Alston Foundation opened its doors in 2008 as the only housing program in Washington, D.C,. solely dedicated to offering pre-independent transitional living and support services to homeless or at-risk LGBTQ youth ages 18 to 24 in all eight wards.
Over forty youths have passed through our doors before going on to find permanent housing and success in life.
Our Mission
The mission of the Wanda Alston Foundation (WAF) is to eradicate homelessness and poverty for LGBTQ youth between the ages of 18 and 24. We are dedicated to ensuring that LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness have access to services that improve their overall quality of life.Â
Our mission is achieved through our advocacy and programming. The Wanda Alston Foundation advocates for increased resources for youth while providing programs including housing, life skills training, case management services, linkages to medical care and mental health care and other social services, support in staying or returning to school, and employment support.
